The
St. Mary/Sacred Heart Women's Sodality was established in
2001, to assist the pastor in promoting and strengthening
our Catholic faith. Sodalities are voluntary associations
of the faithful established and guided by Church authorities
for the promotion of works of Christian charity and piety.
To
that end, the Sodality organized several collections of winter
coats and other outer wear for the needy families of Newmarket
and the surrounding towns.
The
Catholic Church has consistently spoken with one voice on
the sacredness and importance of human life. We have an open
forum for pro-life speakers which help our people to learn
more about the dignity of the human person in all stages of
life.
Prayer
is an important component of the Sodality membership. Therefore,
we started a group which prays the Rosary after the 4:00 p.m.
Saturday Mass. In conjunction with this valuable prayer, the
membership learned how to make Rosaries which were earmarked
for the poor and sent overseas. Additionally, representatives
from the World Apostolate of Our Lady were invited to speak
to the members in order to assist them in spreading the message
of Our Lady.
The Sodality has also been involved in the life of St. Mary
Parish by organizing pot-luck suppers; the 125th Anniversary
Celebration of St. Mary Church; the 40th anniversary of our
former pastor; a welcoming ceremony for a new pastor; various
fundraisers for the Church; the donation of a TV/VCR table
for the Religious Education classes; and other aspects of
parish life.
New
members are always welcome!! Our meetings take place on the
third Sunday of each month in the Church hall at 6:30 p.m.
